How to get the good ending in Blood and Wine

Blood and Wine has three different endings. A “good” ending, and two “bad” ones.

While I don’t want to give away exactly what happens in each ending, I do want to explain how to get the “good” ending, because it’s not particularly easy. And there seems to be only one path through the game to get it.

In fact: pretty much everything in Blood and Wine‘s central quest wants to push you towards the “bad” endings. Or, at least: the game doesn’t want to give you the “good” ending without a bit of effort.

Okay, so here’s what you need to do to get the “good” ending in Blood and Wine:

1. Firstly, you need to progress the Beast of Toussaint questline forward, until you reach the quest “The Night of Long Fangs“.

2. During “The Night of Long Fangs” you need to find Damien de la Tour’s unit and then go back to the palace to find the playroom and start the quest “Beyond Hill and Dale“. It is possible to follow the alternative questline, “Blood Simple“, until you reach Regis at the docks, at which point you can switch your focus back to “Beyond Hill and Dale” and finding Syanna.

3. During “Beyond Hill and Dale“, when you’re in the palace’s playroom, make sure you read every entry in the journal, before clicking on “Land of a Thousand Fables” and entering the illusion.

4. Inside the illusion it is then vitally important that, when you talk to Syanna, you choose the correct conversation choices and are sympathetic to her. These are the moments to look out for: a) after getting the first bean, ask her about her side of the story. b) after getting the second and third beans, make sure to talk to her fully and ask her about Dettlaff.

5. Next, you need to win the ribbon from the Little Flint Girl, during the quest “Over Hill and Dale…“, by beating her at Gwent. If you don’t win the ribbon you can’t get the “good” ending. She plays using the Scoia’tael deck and is fairly easy to beat.

6. The love scene after the Cloud Giant fight has no bearing on the outcome of the ending – you can do and say what you like.

7. Next, you must investigate the fifth victim in the quest “Pomp and Strange Circumstance“. Complete all the objectives to unlock a chat with Syanna.

8. During the conversation with Syanna (by the window) you need to choose: “Cause she turned her back on you, forgot about you” and “Ever thought to forgive her?” Note that after the conversation, telling Damien the truth or not has no bearing on the outcome.

9. Okay, finally you’re at the ceremony and this is where you get to find out if all that hard work got you the “good” ending or not.

After completing Blood and Wine, any quests that weren’t closed by the main storyline, and you haven’t yet completed (or even started), will remain open.

Note that, between tasks 6 and 7 above, you’ve got the small matter of beating Dettlaff in a somewhat challenging boss battle. How that plays out depends on how you played Blood and Wine, and how good your Witcher 3 combat skills are…

I love Toussaint. I really wish the developers would go back there. Corvo Bianco is such a great place to live – I’d love to have more adventures there.

Blood and Wine “good” ending, in a nutshell:

  1. Progress the Beast of Toussaint questline forward, until you reach the quest “The Night of Long Fangs“.
  2. During “The Night of Long Fangs” you need to find Damien de la Tour’s unit and then go back to the palace to find the playroom and start the quest “Beyond Hill and Dale“.
  3. When you’re in the palace’s playroom, make sure you read every entry in the journal, before clicking on “Land of a Thousand Fables” and entering the illusion.
  4. Inside the illusion ask Syanna about her side of the story and remain sympathetic to her.
  5. Win the ribbon from the Little Flint Girl by beating her at Gwent.
  6. Kill Detlaff.
  7. Investigate the fifth victim in the quest “Pomp and Strange Circumstance“. Complete all the objectives to unlock a chat with Syanna.
  8. During the conversation with Syanna you need to choose: “Cause she turned her back on you, forgot about you” and “Ever thought to forgive her?

And that is it!
