In the final part of the secondary quest “Funeral Pyres” Geralt confronts the fisstech-dealing Priest of the Eternal Fire and refuses to be bribed by him. The Priest, with his two bodyguards, unwisely attacks Geralt and ultimately regrets doing so.

Video: Killed by Bandits in Velen
Playing on Death March difficulty, at the start of the game you can easily be killed by small groups of bandits who might attack you, as happens to me here on my way through Velen.
Video: First Meeting With Ronvid
Geralt’s first encounter with Ronvid of the Small Marsh happens just outside Crow’s Perch after speaking with The Baron. Ronvid has pledged to Maid Bilberry that he will cut down one hundred knights in her honour.

Geralt meets with Phillip Strenger, aka The Bloody Baron, who tells him he knows why he’s come to Crow’s Perch. The Baron confirms that he recently saw Ciri, which begins the flashback quest “Ciri’s Story: The King of the Wolves”, which you play as Ciri.

After a short battle with some bandits, I go to the Character screen to use the single skill point available. It’s time to activate the general skill, Gourmet, which is very useful if you’re playing on Death March difficulty.

A Priest of the Eternal Fire asks Geralt to cremate three piles of dead bodies for him. This will count among Geralt’s “good merits” the Priest tells him.

Video: Dirty Funds
A short secondary quest called Dirty Funds sees Geralt tracking down some treasure at a bandit camp in northern White Orchard. The camp is on a hill east of White Orchard Cemetery and houses a leader who carries a shield – one of the first shielded opponents that you’ll find in the game.

Geralt investigates a bandit camp in White Orchard and is immediately attacked by its inhabitants. Then, before he has a chance to catch his breath, he is attacked by two waves of wolves and wargs.
Video: Missing In Action
Geralt visits Amavet Fortress Ruins on his way to meet Dune Vildenvert and finds the Serpentine Steel Sword diagram. Afterwards he walks the battlefield with Dune, and his dog Hussar, to look for his missing brother Bastien.
